Welcome Visitors

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Pontiac! Whether you're new to the community, new to our church, or new to faith and worship, we're here to help you feel welcome and comfortable in our church home.

What to Expect

Welcome! We're glad you're here and hope that, by providing some more information about ourselves and our services, we can help make your visit more comfortable!

Arrival

When you arrive for worship, you will be met by our friendly greeters. Our greeters and ushers will be able to help you with any directions or information you need (including where you can get a cup of coffee if you need it!).

We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before the start of worship. This will allow time for you to settle your children into nursery care, grab a cup of coffee, or find a seat in the sanctuary and watch the week's announcements as they play on the screen before worship. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with upcoming events here at FBC!

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to participate fully in the life of our church family. Therefore, our church facility is completely handicapped accessible with no stairs that impede movement around the building and some pews that feature cutouts to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

If you require assistance when you arrive for worship, pull your car under the awning on the circle drive and ushers will be more than happy to help you into the church while a valet parks your car for you. Following worship, a valet will retrieve your vehicle and bring it back around for you.

Worship

Worship services are held each Sunday at 10:00 am. An average worship service lasts approximately an hour. During services there will be prayers offered, plenty of music and singing, readings from scripture, and a message from the pastor.

A service of communion is offered during worship on the first Sunday of each month. We practice open communion and welcome everyone to share at the Lord's table.

Sunday School

Our Sunday Morning Connections classes meet from 9:00 am - 9:45 am each Sunday. There are classes for all ages and stages of life.

Music

We are a vibrant community of faith and incorporate a diverse variety of music into worship services. We use contemporary worship and praise music alongside more traditional hymns. Lyrics to congregational songs are displayed on the screen for easy reference.

Dress

We encourage you to wear what makes you feel comfortable. Some choose to dress up for worship while many others choose more casual and comfortable attire.

Children

Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers in a bright and cheerful room conveniently located just across the hall from the sanctuary.

During worship, children in preschool and kindergarten will be called forward for a special children's story. Following the children's story, they will have the opportunity to gather at the Koinonia Kid's Zone for a time of learning and praise specifically designed for them.

Of course, if you prefer, your children are absolutely welcome to stay with your family throughout worship!

We love the littlest members of our church family and offer several programs to help them form a solid foundation of faith. Visit our Children page for more information about the children's programming available here at FBC Pontiac.

*Because we take the safety of our little learners seriously, all of our children's volunteers have been subjected to and have passed a comprehensive background check. Our curriculum is always age appropriate and taught in a safe and supportive environment by a team of dedicated volunteers. We strive to make church a happy place where children are excited to be involved and to learn!*
